HAPPY RETURNS!
Simon Euan-smith sees boxing return to Tolworth – and several fighters win after long layoffs
TOLWORTH NOVEMBER 6 ★★★★★ WHOLE SHOW ★★★★★ ATMOSPHERE
PRO boxing returned to Tolworth after four years with nine fourrounders at the Recreation Centre. Every “home” fighter won – seven returning after layoffs (six since 2019) plus two debutants.
Londoner Adrian Redman scored his sixth straight win – and first inside-schedule – by halting Malam Varela, a Portuguese based in Manchester, in the final session. Redman scored with bodyshots in the third – and in the last Varela wilted under sustained pressure. Varela was trapped in Redman’s corner and Redman scored freely with both hands. Referee Mark Bates intervened after 1-08.
Out since 2020, Luton’s Mohammad Ali Malik also scored his first stoppage, halting Bulgarian Teodor Nikolov after 2-43 of the second.
A right to the head dropped Nikolov. He was up at about four, and referee Bates completed the eight-count and told them to box on – but the towel came in from Nikolov’s corner. It was announced as a stoppage.
Sutton’s Aaron Prospere floored and halted Bulgarian Petar Aleksandrov after 2-13 of the second. A burst to the head floored Aleksandrov by the ropes. He tried to fire back as Prospere followed up, but was taking stick on the ropes and Mr Bates intervened.
George Mitchell (Enfield) took just 2-27 to halt Bulgaria’s Konstantin Alexandrov.
Alexandrov was down three times, from rights to the head. The third time, Mitchell’s corner started celebrating while referee Sean Mcavoy was counting – he completed the eight, then signalled the end.
Debutant Tom Simmons
(Worcester Park) outscored Bulgarian Mlanen Manev by 39-37 for Mr Bates, who had another first-timer – Guildford’s Alfie Clegg – beating Alejandro Torres (Tenerife) by 40-36.
Referee Mcavoy awarded 40-36 verdicts to Brixton’s Tony Bange
over Mexican Fernando Valencia,
and Croydon’s Ziggy Macauley over Willesden’s Ossie Jervier – and scored for Godstone’s Luke Pearson over Ukrainian Stanislav Bilohurov by 39-37. Blvck (sic) Box Global promoted.
