TV CLASHES DON'T BOTHER ME

-

IT does not bother me at all that Boxxer and Sky Sports are going to stage a show at the same time as Matchroom and DAZN on December 11. My wife rules the TV remote with a rod of iron and hates boxing! So she can watch whatever she wants and I will happily get up at 5am on Sunday morning and watch both cards in splendid isolation. CREDIT TO BOB WILLIAMS

IT'S about time we paid tribute to referee Bob Williams. From his top-class work as a referee to his continuing hard work with Home Counties EBA, not to mention his life-saving duties as a fireman, it's an overdue honour. So lets get this organised. We are always being told boxing people look after those in our sport, so lets get our heads together and get it done. Simon Collins

RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE II? The news that Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez looks set to face cruiserweight Ilunga Makabu in his next fight came right out of the blue. While the light-heavyweight leaders may be breathing a sigh of relief it definitely raises a few questions. Like will he be able to get back down to 168 to fight the likes of David Benavidez? How much weight will he be giving away? This could be an exciting chapter in Canelo’s career. He can further cement his legacy by emulating the great Harry Greb, from a century ago. Greb regularly gave away many pounds in weight when stepping up from middleweight to challenge much heavier opponents. Another question has to be, where will the fight take place? I noticed that Makabu has fought mostly out of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo – formerly Zaire, of course. Does this mean we could see another “Rumble in the Jungle”? Chris Strange

CRAWFORD v SPENCE NEXT

TERENCE CRAWFORD adds to the argument that he's a pound for pound king while eventually getting to the force that is Shawn Porter.

Porter looked, at least from the outside, that he was giving Crawford plenty to worry about.

But Crawford is such a classy boxer, he was landing decent body shots and occasional head shots, taking the wind out of his opponent.

Finally, by the 10th round, he had Porter down twice, which is no mean feat. Porter pounded the canvas with his glove in frustration, but his father called it off, almost certainly saving him from a more severe stoppage!

And in the crowd, a certain Errol Spence Jnr was seated to watch, only to quickly leave after viewing the stoppage. Let's hope they get it on. Patch Hammond
