Returnees and newcomers alike victorious in Glasgow
FORMER Celtic bantamweight champ and Commonwealth title challenger Scott Allan was back punching for pay for the first time in a little over two years on this St Andrew’s Sporting Club promotion at the Radisson Blu Hotel. He ultimately proved too much for Birmingham’s Waqas Mohamed, who had been out of the ring for a similarly long period.
Seemingly enjoying himself and with his aim still being the securing of a domestic title at bantamweight, the 29 year-old Wishaw operator took another step towards his avowed goal with the card reading 59-53 at the culmination of six rounds.
Out even longer was Jack Turner, who hadn’t boxed for two and a half years so, as was the case in the main event, there was a fair degree of ring rust to be shed against Evesham’s tough Brett Fidoe, who in comparison had banked 13 outings in the time the Glasgow man had been out.
Trunks bedecked with shamrocks, Jack couldn’t have had a better opponent facing him across the ring if the intention was to bank some good hard rounds on his return. That indeed proved the case with Brett fully playing his part prior to Jack being declared a 59-55 winner at the finish.
A trio of first-timers completed the bill with not a single point dropped along the way. Falkirk super-bantamweight Kaiden Maguire exchanged pleasantries with Hull veteran Luke Fash, for whom it was a 75th paid outing, and emerged a 40-36 winner, Newarthill lightweight Martin Crossan mirrored his achievement by putting paid to the hopes of newcomer Georgiou Andreou who visited the canvas in what proved an entertaining affair, while at bantamweight Glasgow girl Cassidy Todd came out on top against Bratislava’s Claudia Ferenczi over six two-minute rounds.
