RARE DUST-UP

Two prospects clash after withdrawals hit bill, writes Andrew Wake

COLNE DECEMBER 12 ★★★☆☆ WHOLE SHOW

PROMOTER Frank Duffin and matchmaker Kevin Maree endured a nightmare before Christmas in the run up to Sunday’s show as a number of withdrawals reduced a nine-fight card to five. Topping the bill was a rare dust up between unbeaten prospects as Burnley’s Reece Farnhill took on Rob Magill from Ripon.

The bout only lasted 40 seconds into the second round, but even in defeat Magill deserves credit for his display. Farnhill took the centre of the ring from the get-go and used his jab to get inside. Magill, however, did well with counters and there wasn’t much to split them until the closing seconds of the stanza.

There was also a swift end to the matchup between Liam O’reilly and debutant George Sutcliffe.

Sutcliffe fought bravely but his mistake was fighting with his chin in the air and O’reilly took advantage, dropping his foe in the dying embers of round one and finishing things with a left in the next session. Sutcliffe got up, but again Mr Kirkpatrick had seen enough. The time was 1.07 of round two.

Halifax’s Joe Garside used his jab to control affairs against Newark’s Fonz

Alexander and picked up a 40-36 verdict on the card of John Latham.

Omar Dusary defeated Jake Pollard 40-37. Dusary switch-hit and worked the body well but Pollard stepped-up in the second round with a 20 second burst of punches. Mr Latham officiated.

Dale Arrowsmith lost his grandfather, Stockport-based trainer Roy Richardson, in the week and he surely did him proud with a 38-38 draw against Irishman Dominic Donegan.

Donegan bossed the opening two sessions with a commanding jab. Arrowsmith became the aggressor in the third. The final round was close and difficult to score. Mr Kirkpatrick thought Arrowsmith had done enough to earn the round and a share of the spoils.
