HOLD YOUR HANDS UP & SAY SORRY

-

THE authorities close in on Daniel Kinahan and several of the managers, boxers and trainers who were so quick to work with him are scrambling through their social media feeds and deleting old praise.

Just a thought, but perhaps it would have saved a lot of trouble to have steered clear of him in the first place.

I have followed boxing religiously for the last 15 years and I can honestly say this whole business is far worse than any bad decision, any failed drug test or any bogus belt.

People involved should come out of the shadows with their hands in the air and apologise. That is the best form of damage limitation, believe me. Andrew Turner

WHYTE SHOULD BE DOING MORE

SO, Tyson Fury v Dillian Whyte is just around the corner. This is an excellent match-up between two legitimate world class fighters. Also an all British heavyweight title fight to rival Lennox Lewis versus Frank Bruno. Up to 94,000 seats and the outlandish purse bid by Frank Warren. Yet Dillian Whyte refuses to promote the show in any way. That makes no sense to me. This is a special fight that Dillian surely has an obligation to help sell. How can he justify not showing up for press conferences and public workouts? Tyson is a great seller of fights, but he needs a dance partner.

I'm not sure how popular the fight is in the UK, but over here in the USA it's not on the radar. Canelo and GGG are gaining way more press. Same too with Errol Spence Jnr and Ryan Garcia.

Dillian Whyte needs to hang his head in shame, he's treating what should be a huge and proud event like a non-event. Mike Hills

QUESTIONS TO ANSWER

BOXING has, as predicted, decided not to do it's bit against Russia. On the world stage, Dmitry Bivol will get his bank account handsomely credited for fighting Mexican superstar, Canelo Alvarez.

On the home front, travelling Russian journeymen continue to earn every week or so up and down the country. The Board sidestep the issue of banning these fighters by saying they are not fighting on Russian licences. What do Eddie Hearn and Robert Smith have to say on these two matters?

PRAISE FOR BIG DADDY

I DON'T know how much you pay Steve 'Big Daddy' Bunce but it is not enough! He is the best sports journalist out there. Knowledgeable, sharp and very, very funny. His piece on on The Art of Survival (Boxing News, April 14) was a master class.

Martyn Watson

Kalle Sauerland Wasserman promoter

I believe that Fury will be the victor. His spectacular performances show that he seems to improve from fight to fight. I do think it’ll be an exciting fight. Dillian’s one of the most improved heavyweights if you look at his career path and on that stage everyone will be giving that extra 10 percent that champions show.

Michael Conlan Featherweight contender

I think it can be a real entertaining fight, Whyte will come to win and not lay down. Fury is the ultimate entertainer, I think he boxes his way to a points victory.

Paul Ready Boxing manager

I favour Tyson Fury to win on points but he may have to get off the floor. But Tyson’s height and reach will see him through.

Declan Taylor Sports reporter

I can’t see anything other than Tyson Fury inside the distance. Whyte might have his moments but I think Fury’s reach and power will keep him firmly in control and enable him to close the show in the middle rounds.
