CLASS OF 2016
With Joshua Buatsi back in action this weekend, we take a look at the pro fortunes of 10 men’s medallists from the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil
1 SHAKUR STEVENSON
The most successful boxer from the 2016 Olympics, Stevenson, a silver medallist, has won professional ‘world’ titles as a featherweight and superfeatherweight and beat Óscar Valdez, a fellow unbeaten belt-holder.
2 JOE JOYCE
Unlucky not to win gold in Rio, Joyce has won all 13 of his pro fights to date and impressed when stopping the likes of Carlos Takam and Daniel Dubois. He also has a decision win against Bryant Jennings.
3 ROBSON CONCEIÇÃO
Brazilian Conceição won a gold medal at his home games and, as a pro, has won 17 of 18 fights, losing only against Oscar Valdez, whom many believed he outboxed in 2021.
4 MATHIEU BAUDERLIQUE
A bronze medallist at light-heavyweight, Bauderlique responded well from an early KO loss to win 21 of 22 pro fights and claim the European light-heavyweight title with a seventh-round stoppage of Igor Mikhalkin.
5 FILIP HRGOVIĆ
Croatia’s Hrgović bagged bronze in Rio and emerged as one of the professional game’s best heavyweight prospects. Hrgović has beaten the likes of American journeymen Eric Molina and Amir Mansour with ease.
6 JOSHUA BUATSI
Still to be properly tested as a pro, Buatsi, a bronze medallist at the 2016 Games, is a light-heavyweight with 13 knockouts from 15 straight wins. His best win came last time out against Ricards Bolotniks.
7 ROBEISY RAMÍREZ
Despite losing his pro debut, Cuban Ramírez, the gold medallist in 2016, has won nine fights in a row and in his last fight stopped Ireland’s Eric Donovan in fine style.
8 SOULEYMANE CISSOKHO
Bronze medallist Cissokho is 15-0 as a pro so far and has registered good wins against Roberto Valenzuela Jr, Ismail Iliev and Kieron Conway.
9 DANIYAR YELEUSSINOV
Kazakh southpaw Yeleussinov, a gold medal winner in 2016, hasn’t quite ignited so far as a pro but has still remained unbeaten in 11 fights and last time out dominated Juan Hernan Leal over 12 rounds.
10 IVAN DYCHKO
Heavyweight Dychko secured a bronze medal in 2016 and in his pro career has won all 11 fights by knockout. His last two wins, against Alexander Ustinov and Denis Bakhtov, both ended inside the first round.
