★★★★★ WHOLE SHOW

ON YET another show bedevilled by withdrawals Scunthorpe’s Dec Spelman

excelled once more, requiring just over 90 seconds of a scheduled six to put paid to the hopes of Darwen’s Stevie Taylor

who was floored twice in what little time it lasted.

Seemingly suited to life amongst the cruisers, this being his second outing at the weight, “Kid Nytro” was in no mood for hanging around at the Magna, and barely had his corner’s instructions, not to force it, been uttered he connected with a short left which sat his Lancashire opponent down in centre ring.

Taylor was up quickly as referee for the night Howard Foster counted but was back down again, this time from a right, just moments later, the towel being hurled in by his corner with 73 seconds of the opener still to run.

I had wondered when Liverpool’s Mohammed Al Warith retired at the end of a particularly one-sided opener against Denaby’s much lighter Conner Kelsall if an early night was in prospect.

After all, the first two bouts were done and dusted with only four-and-a-half minutes having been boxed. There was still to come a bout between Wakefield welter Dom Hunt, who until the withdrawal of Lewis Booth had been set for a title defence, and Nottinghamshire’s late sub Charlie Sheldon who was still looking for a maiden victory.

Nottingham Forest fan Sheldon proved resilient enough, however. Though bested by a superior southpaw opponent and forced to grab on a couple of occasions in the later stages, he made it through to the finish, albeit emerging on the wrong side of a 60-54 score-line.

A four between local favourite James Flint and Brierley Hill’s experienced MJ Hall was always likely to finish 40-36 so there were few raised eyebrows when “Young Lion” Flint bagged every round and a tenth paid win in the process.
