BIG BEN STRIKES

Thomas upsets the applecart by halting debutant

-

THERE was a debut to forget for Devon’s shaven-headed James Drummond who was dropped and halted late in the opener of a scheduled four on this Sunday afternoon BCB promotion at the Eastside Rooms by Ben Thomas.

A whipped in early right uppercut from Bolton’s “Big Ben” and an immediate left cross had James in trouble before a pair of rights sent the new start over sideways in centre ring. He regained his feet at a count of five but trialist referee Peter Mccormack had seen enough, waving it off with 10 seconds of the first still to run.

Melksham’s Liam Richards, in his 89th paid outing was unable to prevent popular Worcester puncher Ameen Khalid taking all four rounds on the card of Mr Dean who at the conclusion of a one-sided affair scored 40-36. Khalid began at quite a pace and he came on strongly again late to leave Liam with a bloody nose.

Chelmsley Wood light-heavy Brandon Jones won by the same score against experienced Bulgarian Konstantin Aleksandrov who offered little as Jones, mixing it up nicely, dominated behind the jab. Chris Dean scored from ringside for Peter Mccormack.

Hereford’s Liam O’hare, having won at this same venue last time out, didn’t want to miss out, and a shut-out win came his way too at the conclusion of a four against Oldbury’s Dwain Grant. Backing Dwain to the ropes regularly Liam looked for the gaps and found sufficient to land a good few purposeful rights to the flank, Grant wasn’t for shifting though and was still there at the finish as was Shrewsbury’s Luke Merrifield who at the finish of an at times feisty affair lost out 39-37 to Walsall’s Lewis Morris.
