KAYANI CRUISES
Six prospects get the job done in York Hall, writes Brooke Streatfield
SLOUGH’S Amar Kayani impressed with a third round stoppage over Nottingham’s Charlie Sheldon in the only scheduled six-rounder. Kayani landed sharp right hands effectively throughout. A flurry of hooks in the third sent Sheldon to the canvas before he beat the count, but explosive work to the body forced him down again. Chas Coakley stopped the contest at 2-36 of the third.
Back in the ring for the first time in six years, Maidstone’s George Hennon had a 40-36 points win over Newark’s Fonz Alexander on referee Sean Mcavoy’s scorecard.
Dulwich superlightweight
Emmanuel Zion
needed only two rounds to steam through Senegal’s
Matar Samoubi.
Zion upped the work-rate in the second round behind huge flurries of shots. Mr Coakley stepped in with 30 seconds of the round remaining.
Sutton super-welterweight Dean Gardner made an impressive start to his professional career against Jordan Grannum. Gardner stayed busy on the front foot and Grannum replied with left hooks to the body but it wasn’t enough to stop the 23-year-old debutant winning every round on the scorecard of Mcavoy.
Ray Bear, of Bethnal Green, secured a 39-37 points win over Camden’s Robbie Chapman on Mr Coakley’s scorecard in a middleweight bout. Bear walked Chapman down from the first bell, his right hand-left hook combinations stood out while Chapman was happy to soak up the pressure and replied well at times.
London superlightweight Ahmed Hatim secured a 40-36 win against Canning Town’s Lee Hallett on referee Mccoy’s scorecard. Haitim connected with solid right hands throughout and pushed hard as the fight progressed. Hallett, staying low, made it difficult for Hatim by smothering his work and countering well to the body.
