LINZI BUCZYNSKYJ had to dig deep to win the vacant Central Area superfeatherweight title at the second time of asking.

The Bolton stylist had fallen short when challenging for the same belt against Jade Taylor in April and had to overcome some hairy moments here against Chelsey Arnell.

Buczynskyj was in charge early, catching Arnell coming in with right hands. However, the pendulum swung heavily after the fifth as Arnell pressured.

With the margins tight, Buczynskyj needed a big final round and produced one to take the spoils 96-95 on referee Darren Sarginson’s card.

Wycombe King v Robbie O’connor was far from the standard home ticket seller against travelling opponent fare, as O’connor came determined to upset the odds.

O’connor did his best work from range while King pressed forwards and Jamie Kirkpatrick’s score of 38-38 was probably right.

Another surprise 38-38 draw came in the tussle between James Albert and Seamus Devlin.

Albert was the boss until the third round when he walked on to a heavy shot and was left on unsteady legs. He had to use all his resolve to get through a frantic final session. Mr Sarginson officiated.

Co-promoter Kevin Maree has compared Reece Farnhill to Carl Froch, and the Burnley man showed some of the Cobra’s stoic qualities as he bludgeoned Vasif Mamedov in all six rounds, but somehow the Russian made it to the final bell. Mr Kirkpatrick scored it 60-54.

Another shut out on Mr Kirkpatrick’s card was a 40-36 as Brian Phillips saw off Taka Bembere.

Mr Sarginson oversaw two contests that were also marked 40-36. First up, Adam Sircar used a solid jab to overcome Fonz Alexander, then debutant Jasmina Zapotoczna outboxed Claudia Ferenczi.

Ibrahim Nadim scored the first stoppage of his career as halted John Spencer at 1:40 of the fourth. The Keighley favourite mixed up his attacks before a straight right brought Kirkpatrick’s intervention.

Billy Deniz battered Nathan Junor for two rounds before Junor retired. Sarginson was the official.

A drop in workrate saw Leon Willings slip to a shock 38-39 defeat to Robbie Chapman for Mr Kirkpatrick.
