Next phase of Hinkley Point C to create 1,200 new jobs
HUNDREDS of new jobs and apprenticeship roles are set to be created as part of the next phase of Hinkley Point C power plant’s construction.
Some 1,200 new jobs and 300 apprenticeships will be created as part of the supply chain, EDF Energy has said. Engineering companies Capula and Exyte Hargreaves are among suppliers creating new roles.
Capula has landed a contract to design and build instrument and control cabinets, creating 50 new jobs, while Excyte Hargreaves will create 30 roles to design, manufacture and commission ventilation systems. The jobs are part of the next phase of construction at Hinkley which involves fitting electrical systems, cables and pipes at the nuclear power station.
The work is being delivered by a joint venture – the MEH (mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning) Alliance. The alliance has been formed by EDF and its major contractors: Altrad, Balfour Beatty Bailey, Cavendish Nuclear and Doosan Babcock. The fitting of the first five out of 156 storage tanks has marked the beginning of major MEH work on site.
