Paint plea Hospice calls for help to bring in funds

BRISTOL actor Joe Sims is asking people to get covered in paint to raise money for the city’s only adult hospice.

Joe wants people to support St Peter’s Hospice’s annual Madmess event to raise money for the charity.

Although the coronavirus pandemic has meant the charity cannot run its normal Madmess 5k as planned, it wants people to hold their own fundraiser.

And the charity will even provide the paint.

Supporters are being asked to pick a date in July and August to take on their own 5k challenge or the Kid’s Kilometre and raise funds for the hospice.

Joe made sure he got himself covered in paint at Bristol Rovers ground to launch the 2020 Madmess fundraising challenge, with the help of Bristol Rovers Community Trust CEO Adam Tutton, football fans and local children.

Joe said: “We need to unite and stand shoulder to shoulder to be able to help our incredible St Peter’s Hospice whose funding streams have been decimated by the effects of Covid-19.

“Yet still they fight, for all of us and for any of us.

“This is our opportunity to help them fight back to continue the phenomenal levels of support they provide.

“Madmess your way is a chance to get out, with the people it’s safe to do so with, across our beautiful city and run 5k wherever you feel happiest to raise much-needed cash for an institution that you hope you and yours never need.

“We are stronger together, shoulder to shoulder – united.”

Those signing up to take part will receive a white St Peter’s Hospice T-shirt to get messy, a packet of powder paint and a sign to pin to the T-shirt telling people why you are running and who you are remembering.

Entrants will also receive fundraising resources and tips and will be presented with a medal one the run is captured on camera and completed.

Registration costs £5 per person to cover the costs.

A St Peter’s Hospice spokesman said: “We hope that those taking part will consider fundraising too.

“The target we’re setting is £25 which will make such a huge difference to our patients and their loved ones.”
