Churches League Douglas double fires Clevedon to victory

CLEVEDON Family Church began their Division One campaign with a 3-2 victory against Edge Church at Clevedon School.

Nathan Douglas (2) and Adam Tomlinson scored for Clevedon, who were battling it out with Woodlands for the title last season until it was curtailed by the Covid pandemic. Theo Allen and Sam Morris scored for Edge. Woodlands started with a 4-1 win at Cairns Road Corinthian­s, thanks to strikes from Cameron Gemmell, Ryan King, Ieuan Pearse and Jack Brady. Alex Piper scored for the hosts.

Castle Green made it two wins from two games with a 6-0 success against Bath Churches United at

Lansdown, having been four up at half-time. Emmanuel Alli scored two, with the other goals from George Malyckyj, Stuart Thompson-Gilroy, Gareth Yeend and David Achu.

Woodlands United had goals from Ryan Campbell and Joseph Cook in a 2-2 home draw against Thornbury Baptist, whose goals came from Richard Ocone and Ben Paddy.

In Division Two, St James Revolution gained a second win from two outings with a 2-0 home victory against Spartak Woodlands, with goals from Peter Gordon and Peter McCarthy.

Rock Crusaders are also two from two following a 6-1 home win against Clevedon Family Church Reserves, thanks to strikes from Haydon Papworth (2), Steven Harvey, Gregory Hill, Jack Thacker and Rikki Tainton. Jonathan Stubbs scored for Clevedon.

ECF Portishead had goals from Henry Arnold, Noah Herbert and Ross Davidson for a 3-0 home win against Castle Green Reserves.
