REAL Thornbury showed themselves to be the real deal as they set off on their Senior Division mission with a convincing win.

Chuffed to have been hoisted into the Bristol and District League’s top tier on the strength of their third-placed conclusion to a curtailed First Division 2019-20 campaign, Thornbury came away from Scott Park with a 4-0 victory over Patchway Town Reserves, thanks to Sam Hussey’s brace and Michael Barton and Jake Budd strikes.

Seymour United Reserves had goals from Mike Davey (2) and Ryan Njonjo in a 5-3 defeat by visiting Highridge United Reserves, who hit back from a 2-1 midweek defeat by Fry Club A.

A great game was always on the cards, with both sides having gaine dpromotion, and it didn’t disappoint.

Highridge manager Dean Perry, who watched in delight as Ricky Briggs (2), Gary Amos (2) and Jack Rees scored in the eight-goal “thriller,” said: “Adrian Perry, my dad and assistant manager, was rumoured to be playing bingo long into the night in celebration!”

Totterdown United Reserves had James Kearle and Alex Hazell on target in a 4-2 defeat to Chipping Sodbury Town A.

Oli Colcutt scored for Fry Club A as Longwell Green Sports A followed their 2-1 Wednesday away defeat of Sodbury with an 8-1 crushing of their weekend hosts.

In Division One, Sam Davies and Bristol Barcelona roared back with some force from a 3-2 opening home reverse by Hambrook

Reserves in the week by overcoming Lion 5-1 at their Southmead Road HQ, thanks to the inspired marksman’s five-goal show. Alex Moores scored for the visitors.

An eagerly-anticipated derby at Sunnyside Fields ended with Brimsham Green celebrating a 2-1 victory at Iron Acton Reserves, courtesy of James Hicks and Connor Stanton strikes. Tom Savory’s goal for Acton ensured the contest remained on a knife edge to the final whistle.

Early pacesetters Sea Mills Park could prove a handful this term on the evidence of three unbeaten opening games, as Hartcliffe found to their cost. Josh Day led the way with a hat-trick, Danny Seymour delivered a double and Brandon Dack, James Page, Ben Wood and Josh Gardener added the rest in a 9-0 Millers romp at Kingsweston.

Danny Copeland scored twice to see Lawrence Weston to a 2-1 home defeat of Old Sodbury, while Russ Whiting, Kane Head and Ash Rogers-Milburn were among the goals to help Bradley Stoke Town Reserves bounce back from two early-season losses with a 4-0 victory at Tormarton.

Joe Defreitas’ goal ensured Hambrook Reserves a point from a 1-1 Whiteshill Common stalemate with Roman Glass St George Reserves to maintain their undefeated start to their First Division assault.

What a start DRG SV Frenchay Reserves have made to their Division Two commitments. Laurent Wilson hit a hat-trick, Joey Sterling and Jaheim Stewart celebrated pairs and Milan Miller-Plummer, Ryan Kilbane and Othmane Errabbah all weighed in as Greyfriars Athletic A were bashed 10-1. Ed

Gurling scored for the hosts. Mitchel Thomas and James Griffin scored to give Mendip Broadwalk A a 2-1 first-game home victory over Highridge United A, while Shaftesbury Crusade Reserves had Kevin Mills’ brace and Zayne Simpson and Danny Simpson efforts to thank for pushing them past Bendix 4-3. Connor Blyth, Callum Beale and Luke Harding goals kept battling Bendix in contention.

Bradley Stoke Town A followed their 6-1 assault on Greyfriars with victory by the same scoreline on their Westerleigh Sports travels through Liam Platts’ pair and Chris Evans, Andy Turner, Tom Atkinson and Tim Slack strikes. Jake Ryall provided Sports’ goal.

There were few problems for Winterbourne United Reserves either, clearly relishing their big two-section leap to Division Two. Doubles from Scott Cameron and Liam Sheppard, and a Martin Bobok goal, saw them past Pucklechurch Sports Reserves 5-1 at home for a third win from three to top the early standings. Thai Rodman scored Sports’ consolation.

The Murphy boys, Oli and Neil, did the damage as Fry Club C kicked off their Division Three programme with a 2-1 win at AFC Grace, who replied through Matt Churchill.

AFC Mangotsfield District Reserves beat Fishponds Athletic 7-1, courtesy of Andrew HamiltonDunn’s treble, Chris Astley’s brace and Simon Mansfield and Zak Zabek efforts. Richard Cleverley replied for Fishponds.

Liam Perry and Josh Langdon goals ensured Hanham Abbotonians’ undefeated opening to their programme continued via a 2-1 Vicarage Road win at Hanham Athletic Vets, who had a strike form Adam Grinter.

Iron Acton A were grateful to Joe Jefferies and Kieran Davis goals for seeing off Crosscourt United 2-0.

There was delight, too, for Longwell Green Sports B as Fraser Joyner’s hat-trick and Ethan Platts and Sebastian Davis strikes powered them to a 5-1 victory against hosts Lawrence Rovers Reserves, whose Mike Holloway registered.

Oldland Abbotonians Colts had Dom Parish and Andrew Cutting doubles, plus Aldo Marku and Sam Noble efforts, in a 6-1 home romp over Thornbury Town A.
