AMAN is in a critical condition after being stabbed in St Pauls. The victim, who is in his 30s, was approached by a man in Grosvenor Road shortly after 9pm on Wednesday.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesman says the victim “received a number of stab wounds” from the man who approached him.

“He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition,” the spokesman added.

“Officers attended and conducted a search of the area but the offender had left the scene.

“Although our investigation is at an early stage, we believe this to be an isolated incident between individuals known to each other.”

Bristol poet Lawrence Hoo, pictured inset, was walking home after his 13-year-old son’s birthday party at the Cabot Circus TGI Fridays when he saw armed police.

He said: “There were more than 10 police vehicles. They had just started sealing off a small area on Grosvenor Road, by the park.

“There was a man laid on the pavement. A lot of blood had leaked down the pavement. He was passing in and out of consciousness.

“I saw the ambulance service come and put an intravenous drip into him.

“Then they took him off in an ambulance.”

Mr Hoo added the police had guns and were wearing full-body protection including bulletproof masks.

In a Facebook video the poet shared from the scene, he said: “Just after celebrating my son’s birthday, coming back into St Pauls, this is what we’re greeted with – again.

“Someone’s just been stabbed in St Pauls and here we are. This is an ongoing problem and we need to address this.”

It comes after two recent stabbings in inner city Bristol. Andre Gayle, 29, died in hospital after being knifed near Easton Community Centre on August 31.

He was one of two men injured in the attack, which followed an Easton Road stabbing the day before.

Mr Hoo said: “When I saw what happened in Grosvenor Road, I just felt numb. I’m numb to the violence.

“I should have a different reaction to seeing it. It’s just upsetting and distressing. It’s not shocking any more.”

The cordon was no longer in place on Grosvenor Road yesterday morning.

The force spokesman said: “Our enquiries into what happened are continuing and CCTV footage is being reviewed as we actively search for the offender.

“Anyone who witnessed what happened is asked to call 101 and give reference number 5220211062.”
