BEDMINSTER Down School has confirmed a coronavirus case in its community.

The mixed secondary on Donald Road announced the positive test in a Facebook post at the weekend.

The school said: “We are aware of a confirmed case of Covid-19 in our school community and are working closely with Public Health England. We will be writing to all parents confirming our plans.”

It means at least 13 schools in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire have had positive tests since term started, with more reporting suspected cases.

These are Shirehampton Primary School; John William Oasis Academy in Hengrove; Compass Point Primary School in Bedminster; Elmfield School for Deaf Children in the Southmead ward; Bristol Brunel Academy; Clifton College; Cheddar Grove Primary

School in Bedminster; Air Balloon Primary School, in St George; Hans Price Academy in Weston-super-Mare; Churchill Academy and Sixth Form in North Somerset; Nailsea School, which has confirmed two cases, one of which is a teacher; Two Mile Hill Primary School in South

Gloucestershire; Kings’ Forest Primary School in Kingswood; Culverhill School in Yate, and Tockington Manor School.

Any students or teaching staff who have come into close contact with an infected pupil must selfisolating at home for 14 days.

Bristol City Council’s director of public health Christina Gray said earlier this week: “Please be reassured that while this is disruptive for children at the affected schools, the number of cases is still very small number compared to the thousands of children attending schools across the city.

“Well done to parents and teachers for acting swiftly as this helps stop the virus spreading to other children.”

Ms Gray added there was “significant demand” on the NHS Test and Trace.

“If anyone is struggling to make an appointment and thinks they or their child has Covid-19 symptoms, they should self-isolate immediately and continue to try and book an appointment for a test,” she said.

“The symptoms are a new continuous cough, a high temperature and/or a loss of taste or smell.

“This week new rules came into place reducing the number of people that can meet inside and outside their home to groups of six.”
