WESTON-SUPER-MARE began their Southern League Premier South season in style with a 3-1 victory at Dorchester Town.

Rubin Wilson finished off a low cross from Tom Blair to give Dorchester an early lead, but Weston hit back with two goals late in the first half.

On-loan Cardiff City youngster James Waite curled home an equaliser, then Chris Knowles scored with a back-post header from a corner. Weston struck again in the 54th minute when midfielder Lloyd Humphries bundled home from a Dayle Grubb corner.

Yate Town could also be pleased with their start to the Premier South season after a 1-1 draw against Met Police in Surrey.

The Police took a 14th-minute lead through Max Blackmore’s header, but Yate pulled level in the 62nd minute when a Stuart Fleetwood corner was headed into his own net by Alex Fisher.

Nick Peare came close to grabbing a late winner for Yate, but his free-kick was saved.

In Division One South, Mangotsfield United’s largely youthful side could count themselves unlucky not to take something from their home game against Frome Town.

Kane Simpson played in Rex Mannings to put Frome ahead in the 66th minute, and that proved to be the only goal of the game.

Mangotsfield were denied an equaliser on several occasions late in the game by fine saves from former Bristol City youngster James Carey.

Bristol Manor Farm suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Cirencester

Town, who were indebted to two Roger James goals in three minutes early in the second half.

Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist missed the chance to pull a goal back when he had a penalty saved, and there was more misery for the hosts with a late red card for ‘keeper Ben John.

Paulton Rovers bounced back from a disappointing FA Cup exit at Saltash by taking a point from a goalless draw at Thatcham Town.

Dan Cottle fired a couple of shots wide for Paulton, while Will Haiston missed a good chance in the closing stages for the visitors.
