Well, it looks like we’re walking our way into another lockdown period

-

WHAT a surprise after failures to properly , if at all, consider and risk assess all factors at the outbreak of this coronavirus disease that we appear to be walking quickly into another lockdown.

It is more of a mess-up than mixed messages, although the latter was a major ingredient by people entrusted to care for the safety of all this being both health and financially. After all that is why they were elected and highly paid with tremendous privileges that most people can only dream of.

Looks likely that Christmas will be ‘wined and dined down.’ This magnificent ‘6’ figure sounds like a senior advisor’s slogan but why six? No doubt this can and will be wrongly circumvented, as if there is a will there is always a way.

This is very much like the reported £3.5 billion defrauded through ill thought-out financial packages. Those who received no help will no doubt also be made liable to pay for this, including the cost of recovery irrespective of how much if any will be recovered.

Oh yes, the introduction of local marshalls at this late stage. Why was this not introduced at the start of the outbreak of coronavirus?

What will the scientists do when this is disease is finally defeated. For a number of them this has made them TV personalities. No doubt there will unfortunately be other aspects of our lives they will comment on and with decisions that will have a major impact on our daily lives, rightly in some cases and wrongly in many others.

Will we eventually become a dystopian society, as George Orwell’s famous book 1984 described? I sincerely hope this remains fiction and does not become a reality.

It is down to us all to act responsibly and ensure that the politicians do the job properly and with due diligence and skill for which they were elected.

Perhaps parliamentary elections should be every three years and people of all ages and backgrounds encouraged to stand locally and nationally to represent us fairly, transparently and to continually ask us for our input and not leave this to the elitist few. David Bonomi Bristol
