Your support ... really has been a lifeline for many of us Breaking Bread statement

APOP-UP tipi village in Bristol featuring bars and restaurants will close next month, the team behind it has announced.

Breaking Bread launched on Clifton Downs in July and has provided a huge boost to the city’s hospitality sector, employing more than 100 people.

The venue is home to covered restaurants operated by Pasta Loco and The Pony and Trap, as well as a large bar area run by Team Love – organisers of Love Saves The Day – and Cheltenham Road pub the Pipe and Slippers.

Complete with its own stage, Breaking Bread has also given performers including comedians and musicians a valuable space to exhibit their talents while venues across the city have stayed shut.

But all good things must come to an end, and organisers have now announced the popular pop-up venue will close on November 8, due to the changing weather making it “less appealing” to visit and the “growing risk” of a second wave of coronavirus.

In a statement they thanked those who supported the venture, saying it has given them a “huge amount of optimism for the future”.

“Breaking Bread has been one of the few positives for our event teams and organisations this year thanks to the amazing support that Bristol has shown us – it has really given us a huge amount of optimism for the future,” they said.

“Your support has directly employed over 100 people across the project, as well as hundreds more across our supply chains and producers. It really has been a lifeline for many of us.

“Hopefully we have managed to give all of you who have been up to visit us over the last three months a positive and happy experience that has felt like something approaching ‘normality’.”

There is good news, however, as organisers also revealed it will return next year.

The statement continues: “Due to the Great British weather making it less appealing for our dedicated customers to be outside, plus the growing risk to our teams in the second wave of the pandemic, November 8 will be the final day of Breaking Bread in 2020.

“We are excited to say that we are making plans to return in 2021 and hope very much to build upon the offering from this year and the fantastic experience we have had.

“Until then, thank you once again for all your support and positivity over this crazy year.”
