A FURTHER ten people died after contracting coronavirus in the Bristol region, latest figures show.

The Government’s latest figures show six deaths were confirmed in our city, two in Bath and North East Somerset, and two in North Somerset .

ver the past week, 46 deaths have been reported in Bristol and its neighbouring districts – one of the highest figures since the pandemic first hit.

Daily cases have also increased by 431 across the Bristol region.

Our city reported the biggest jump, with 204 cases.

South Gloucestershire had the second-highest infections, with 110.

Across the South West, 120 Covid patients were admitted to hospital today. That brings the region overall total to 847.

UK-wide ,598 corona virusrelated deaths were recorded yesterday, and 20,051 new cases.

Our nation is now the first European country to pass the tragic milestone of 50,000 Covid-19 deaths, with a total of 52,147.

More than 2,200 coronavirus infections were recorded in Bristol in the seven days up to November 11 and the city is now amongst the worst hit areas in the country, ranking 16 across 149 local authorities.

Estimated active coronavirus cases are down in Bristol and South Gloucestershire – but up in North Somerset.

The Covid Symptom Study is an app which tracks people with symptoms across the country and gives an estimate for the number of people with the virus on a given day.

Its King’s College London data indicates drops in Bristol and South Gloucestershire since last week, but a rise in North Somerset.

All those areas - as well as Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES) - have more than 5,000 active cases per million people.

This means they are all in the most severe tier on the study’s heat map.

The city of Bristol, the worst-hit

part of the region, has more than double the 5,000 threshold, with an estimated rate of 10,739 cases per million people.

And North Somerset has gone from a rate of 6,346 on November 9 to 8,179 yesterday.

The research indicates the city of Bristol has 4,939 active cases in total, South Gloucestershire 2,305, North Somerset 1,728 and B&NES 1,336. Here is each area’s rate of estimated active cases per million, as of yesterday:

» Bristol: 10,739 (down from 12,156 last week)

South Gloucestershire: 8,229 (down from 10,120 last week)

» North Somerset: 8,179 (up from 6,436 last week)

With almost 5,000 total estimated active cases, Bristol has seen a huge surge since September 7, when its figure was just 431.

People across the country are using the app to report their health. The study also uses data from swab tests. It indicates 543,599 people in the UK currently have symptomatic Covid-19.
