Halifax finds UK’s best neighbour

Communities have come together this year,

-

From clapping on our doorsteps, to shopping for those who couldn’t get out and even just a quick chat in the street, 2020 has brought us together with our neighbours in so many different ways.

Everybody needs good neighbours and this year, more

how important they can be in our lives. In fact, according to research conducted by the Halifax, seven out of ten of us say that good neighbours have a positive impact on our mental health.

A BIG THANK YOU

Now it’s time to say a big thank you to the local lockdown heroes who’ve kept our communities going in difficult, uncertain times, and to celebrate those who have gone above and beyond to support others and spread a little kindness where they live.

We’ve partnered with the Halifax to celebrate Britain’s Best Neighbours and we want you to nominate yours for a chance for them to win £1,000 in Love To Shop vouchers!

Maybe someone went out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed when you had to isolate? Or they entertained older people outside their homes so they didn’t feel lonely? Perhaps you had one neighbour who arranged Zoom workouts or quizzes to get everyone together and beat the boredom?

Whatever they did to make a difference, neighbours have been a lifeline in lockdown and beyond.

The Halifax research suggests a quarter of the population have improved their relationship with neighbours since the pandemic began earlier this year.

The most common neighbourly deeds include picking up shopping (12%), watering plants (10%) and looking after pets (8%).

And being thoughtful is top of the list when it comes to the qualities we look for in a of people asked said that they most valued someone who was considerate of those around them.

Even the simplest of gestures can have a big, often unseen, impact on someone else’s life.

That’s why our good neighbours really deserve shouting about and Britain’s Best Neighbours is going do it!

The Halifax wants to put a spotlight on the small acts of neighbourly kindness that are at the heart of every community across the country.
