THAT DAFT VIDEO YOU SHOT COULD EARN YOU A SLICE OF $1M EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF 2020, THANKS TO SNAPCHAT’S NEW FEATURE

-

IN-KEEPING with the current fashion for social networks copying features from other social networks, Snapchat has taken a leaf out of TikTok’s book and created a space specifically for short form viral video and will pay those who make the most popular.

For creators of content, there’s $1m up for grabs every day.

The new feature is called Spotlight, and it allows users to submit their best video Snaps.

These Snaps will be showcased in a special section on the Snapchat app. The Spotlight section gets its own tab at the bottom of the app screen, showing just how important Snapchat thinks this new feature might be.

Creators are encouraged to use Snapchat’s own tools for making their videos, which I imagine means videos copied directly from other platforms like TikTok will not be considered for inclusion.

Snapchat will then decide who sees these videos in their Spotlight tab based on a number of factors – things like what kind of videos you have watched in the past. How popular your video becomes depends on whether people watch it, obviously, but also on whether people like and share it. The more that happens, the more people

Spotlights can be viewed via Instagram-like circles

your video will be exposed to.

If you’re lucky enough for your video to catch fire on any given day, you may well wind up bagging a chunk of that $1m.

And there is no limit on how many days you are able to earn – so if your video is popular over a number of days, you’ll earn on each of them.

So far Snapchat has committed to paying out $1m-a-day until the end of the year, but has suggested that could be extended.

Either way there is no time to lose. Somebody will be winning that money every day between now and New Year’s Day

– it could be you.
