BRISTOL City welcome Blackburn Rovers to Ashton Gate tonight, with the visitors facing some problems in defence for the 7.45pm kick-off.

The Ewood Park outfit have appealed against a red card dished out to captain Darragh Lenihan in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Brentford, a game in which Scott Wharton went off injured with an Achilles injury.

The Lancashire side could be missing both first-choice centrebacks for the game - and may need to turn to former City defender Deriick Williams, who is close to making a return from thigh and calf problems. Williams may play alongside summer signing Daniel Ayala.

“Derrick’s getting there now, he’s been on the grass for a couple of days,” Mowbray said of the defender to the official Blackburn website.

“Derrick’s been a bit stop-start for us for a while now with his thigh problems and calf problems.

“We’ll wait and see with him, but he’s trained with us the last few days and has looked fine. I’ll have a chat with him and we’ll make a decision on what our thoughts are with Derrick.

“I’m not saying he can play, he’s missed four or six weeks and it’s quite dangerous to put a player in.

“He’s not done very much. It’s dangerous to put him in a game and expect him to hit the ground running, with the injury danger also quite high if you do that.

“If needed then we might have to do that, it’s something I’ll speak to Derrick about.”

Rovers certainly look okay at the other end of the pitch, boasting joint top scorer Adam Armstrong in their ranks and having now scored 31 goals, the highest amount in the league.
