Organiser dismisses ‘Glasto cancelled’ claims

-

EMILY Eavis has confirmed there is “no change” to plans for Glastonbury Festival 2021 after rumours circulated on social media that the event will be cancelled.

The festival organiser moved to dispel speculation on Twitter that there would be no Glastonbury 2021, and added that festival-goers will be updated officially on the plans for the event next year.

Writing on Twitter, Ms Eavis said: “Appreciate lots of rumours are flying around online and in the press, but there’s no change to what I said in the BBC interview last week.

“We’ll let you know through official channels as soon as we have an update (which won’t be until the new year).”

Ms Eavis recently revealed she and her staff were “doing everything we can on our end to plan and prepare” for a full show, but added that “we’re still quite a long way from being able to say we’re confident 2021 will go ahead”.

This comes amid “so many unknowns and factors which are completely out of our control”, she told the BBC.

“I can’t tell you how much we’d love to welcome everyone back to the farm,” she said.

“It’s been way too quiet here this year and we want to get people back here as soon as we possibly can. “Obviously the vaccine news in recent weeks has increased our chances. “What we definitely can’t afford to risk is getting too far into the process of next year, only for it to be snatched away from us again. We lost millions this year, and we can’t risk that happening again.” Previously, the festival’s lawyer, Ben Challis, revealed that due to the complexity of the huge construction operation for the event, which covers more than 1,000 acres when completed, the festival needs to begin it’s build process in March for a June festival.

Ms Eavis said that it was “just too early to say” what changes could be made at the site or what form a 2021 event may take if it goes ahead.
