Massive 250-bed hotel set to open at historic site

AMASSIVE new hotel being built in Bristol city centre is set to welcome its first guests in 2022.

The transformation of the former Edward Everard’s printing works site on the corner of Broad Street and Nelson Street into a 250-bed hotel started at the beginning of 2020.

Irish company Dalata Hotel Group took over the huge site – which was used as offices by Natwest after the closure of the print works in 1967 – two years ago.

The new four-star hotel, which will become part of the Clayton chain, will feature a bar, restaurant, gym and conference facilities

With developers Artisan Real Estate Investors Limited overseeing the work, the scheme also includes six serviced apartments, a residential block of 23 one-bed and studio apartments, co-working space and retail units.

Information on Clayton Hotel’s website reads: “This new Clayton Hotel will be a conversion of the listed facade and the existing Natwest Court office building on Broad Street.

“The four-star property is ideally located in the centre of Bristol, close to Bristol’s commercial centre and within walking distance of the main shopping and leisure districts.

“The hotel will have circa 255 air-conditioned bedrooms, a bar, restaurant, dry gym and extensive conference facilities.”

It says the hotel is expected to open in the first quarter of 2022.

The former Edward Everard’s printing works is known for its unique Art Nouveau facade, which has been a feature of the city’s architecture since the turn of the 20th Century.

Plans suggest the historic frontage will be used as the main entrance to the hotel.

Office workers moved out of Natwest Court for the final time at the end of 2017. Squatters moved in during 2018 but were later evicted as part of a major bailiff operation in September 2019.

Dalata already operates nine Clayton hotels in the UK, including London, Cardiff, Leeds, Birmingham, Belfast and Manchester Airport.

In addition to its new Bristol hotel it is also launching new sites in Glasgow and Manchester, which are also set to open in 2022.
