Former Robins star Flint back with the Bluebirds

-

CARDIFF City defender Aden Flint’s season-long loan at Sheffield Wednesday has been cut short.

The centre-back joined the Owls in October and played four times for the Sky Bet Championship club before a hamstring injury saw the 31-year-old former Bristol City star require surgery.

Flint, pictured, went back to Wales to complete his rehabilitation and was not set to return to full fitness until February, but will not play for Wednesday again this season.

“The Owls can confirm that Aden Flint has returned to parent club Cardiff,” an official club statement read.

“The towering defender joined Wednesday on loan from the Bluebirds in October, making four appearances for the club.

“We would like to thank Aden for his services and wish him well for the future.”

Flint moved to the Bluebirds in the summer of 2019 and was a regular for the first part of the seson before losing his place alongside Sean Morrison in the heart of defence to Curtis Nelson.

When Cardiff signed Filip Benkovic on loan from Leicester City at the start of this season, Flint was allowed to go on loan to Sheffield Wednesday. However, Benkovic has also struggled to break up the Morrison-Nelson partnership and his only appearance for the Bluebirds to date was as a subsitute in the 2-1 defeat at Wycombe after Morrison went off injured in the first half. His lack of game-time has led to suggestions Benkovic - who had a loan spell with Bristol City last seasn - will be recalled by Leicester this month.
