High-speed internet for Weston-super-Mare

-

INTERNET service provider Giganet has announced plans to roll out high-speed internet across more than 20 new locations, including Weston-superMare.

The company said that it is expanding its partnership with CityFibre, with whom it has been connecting residential customers to full fibre broadband over the past two years.

The business, which is based near Fareham, Hampshire, said that strong early sales and high customer satisfaction rates had allowed it to rapidly increase the number of areas it can connect this year.

In total, the AltNet provider said the deal would allow it to serve more than 1.8 million homes in the South of England.

The South West locations Giganet has newly announced for connection are:

Bath, Bournemouth, Cheltenham and Charlton Kings, Gloucester, Poole and Christchurch, Weston-super-Mare.

Giganet recently revealed it is to create more than 200 jobs across the region to carry out work on its own full-fibre network. The company is hoping to connect more than 300,000 homes and businesses in Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and West Sussex.

The company announced the accelerated growth plans following a £250m investment from its new owner Fern Trading, which has acquired Giganet’s parent company M12 Solutions.

Giganet confirmed that it would use some of the funding to significantly increase its existing offering on CityFibre and Openreach fibre, with whom it also has partnership.

Giganet chief executive Jarlath Finnegan said: “Our latest expansion with CityFibre will allow us to connect more homes than ever across the UK, with honest and straightforward access to the best full fibre broadband.

“Coupled with our recent £250m investment project, we’re very proud of the steps Giganet is taking to become one of the country’s leading internet service providers.”

Greg Mesch, CityFibre’s chief executive, added: “We’re thrilled that Giganet has chosen CityFibre’s networks to support their offer of next generation full fibre broadband to millions of homes across the South.

“We are proud to be offering a new, world-class digital infrastructure platform for ISPs that provides them with improved products and economics, and a true competitive advantage. Giganet’s rapid expansion demonstrates the massive potential for new, dynamic and exciting brands to seize the full fibre opportunity.”
