Cribbs edge out Rockleaze to win League Cup

-

ANOTHER milestone was reached in this unusual Bristol Under-18 Combination season with the League Cup reaching its conclusion with the final between Cribbs and Rockeleaze Rangers played at UWE Hillside Gardens.

Rockleaze started brightly against holders Cribbs and took the lead early in the first half with a Jason Sooden goal.

Cribbs rallied and responded prior to half-time when Finn Capes levelled the scores.

In the second half, both teams continued to play attractive football and were evenly matched. Cribbs took the lead midway through the half when Lucas Morgan fired home from the edge of the penalty area. Rockleaze pushed hard for an equaliser, but resolute defending from the Cribbs defence saw them over the line.

The League Plate is proving more difficult to complete at this late stage, as it competes with examinations and other summer activities

On Sunday, only one quarter-final got off the ground, with the game between Saltford Stars and Stoke Lane Lions having to be decided by a penalty shootout.

Stoke Lane went in at hal- time with a 3-1 advantage but after the interval Saltford fought back and the game finished at 4-4. Goalscorers for Saltford were Henry Shortridge (2), Ben Bishop and Nicholas Jones, while Archie Kingscott (2), Tayler Lane and Joseph Punter scored for Stoke Lane, who came out on top 4-3 in the shootout and will now meet Olveston U17 in the semi-finals this Sunday.

The other semi-final will be between Whitchurch or Chew Valley and Port of Bristol.
