Thornbury and Bedminster chasing last-eight place

THORNBURY will be home to Bedminster on a Sunday when a place in the quarter-finals of the Stuart Canvas Gloucester­shire Cup will be at stake.

The winners will be away to Bishopston, who dispatched Bristol. Two more first-round clashes are scheduled for June 26 when Golden Hill welcome Cheltenham, and Gloucester host Hatherley & Reddings.

Winterbour­ne withdrew from the competitio­n, handing Bristol West Indian Phoenix a quarterfin­al trip to Knowle or Painswick. Frocester also pulled out from a trip to Stapleton, who will now be home to Golden Hill or Cheltenham.

Pak Bristolian­s, meanwhile, will be home on Sunday to Hawkesbury Upton in the Stuart Canvas Gloucester­shire Trophy with Hanham travelling to Westbury-onSevern the following weekend.

Thornbury are into the last four of the WEPL qualifying competitio­n for the ECB National Club Twenty20.

The South Gloucester­shire club lost their first stage two game, against hosts Gloucester, by five wickets, but crushed Hatherley & Reddings by 100 runs in their next outing, with captain Marc Lezar cracking 57 off only 29 balls.

Hatherley then edged Gloucester by two runs, leaving Thornbury to progress on run rate. Bridgwater, Bath and Potterne are also through to the next stage on July 11.

Rockhampto­n are preparing to host Yelverton Bohemians on Sunday (1pm) in the last 32 of the Voneus Village Cup. The South Gloucester­shire club, beaten Lord’s finalists in 2013, clinched the Gloucester­shire group with a 25-run victory over Frocester, while Yelverton are the Devon/Cornwall champions.

Congresbur­y, who won the Somerset & Avon group, welcome Wiltshire champions Goatacre.

Brothers George (92) and Josh Wilshire (62) shared an unbroken stand of 117 as Bitton piled up 219-2 ahead of thumping Lansdown by 46 runs to reach the quarter-finals of the Bristol & District’s Tony Hitch Cup.

George faced 62 balls and cracked 12 fours and two sixes, while skipper Josh’s knock came from only 29 deliveries and included six fours and five sixes.

Bitton will now be away to Backwell Flax Bourton, who beat Almondsbur­y by two wickets with just two balls to spare. Opener Tom Phillips hit an unbeaten 82 off 66.
