TWO Bristol locations have announced walk-in coronavirus vaccine clinics as part of a new NHS initiative.

The ‘Grab a Jab’ programme was announced by the government on Friday as it accelerates the vaccine roll-out, with hundreds of walk-in sites operating around England.

In Bristol, the flagship vaccination centre at Ashton Gate Stadium launched a drop-in for over-40s on Saturday which will continue all this week.

East Trees Medical Centre in Eastville has also announced Saturday walk-in clinics, open to any adults aged 18 or older will launch from Saturday, July 3.

NHS chief executive Sir Simon Stevens said: “With more than 63 million jabs already delivered by the NHS in England, we’re now in a race to the finish line.

“It’s now easier than ever to get your life-saving jab, and the more of us who are vaccinated the safer and freer we all will be.”

The locations nationally include football stadiums, theatres, supermarket car parks and shopping centres.

Four in five adults have now received their first dose of the jab, while three in five are fully vaccinated after receiving two doses.

Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said: “I urge everyone eligible to get to their nearest walk-in centre, get their jab and help us get back to normality.”

More booking slots are also being added to the national NHS system for people who prefer to secure an allocated time rather than use a walk-in centre.

The vaccine ‘super centre’ at Ashton Gate Stadium is hosting an AstraZeneca walk-in clinic for people aged 40 and older.

It will offer first doses of the jab, and second doses for people whose first dose was more than eight weeks ago.

The walk-in clinic will run until Friday July 2, between the hours of 5pm and 7pm each day.

Elsewhere in Bristol, East Trees Health Centre will host several Pfizer walk-in clinics for anyone aged 18 or older.

People can show up during the slots below for their first dose, or their second dose if their first dose of Pfizer was more than eight weeks ago. It will be open between 9am and 5pm on: Saturday July 3, Saturday, July 10, Saturday, July 17 and Saturday, July 24.

The drive to get more people fully vaccinated comes amid the continuing rise in cases of the Delta variant, with confirmed numbers in Bristol almost doubling in the space of a week.

“It’s now easier than ever to get your lifesaving jab, and the more of us who are vaccinated the safer and freer we all will be.”
