Six Bristol neighbourh­oods in second most severe Covid category

THE number of Bristol areas with Covid rates above 200 per 100,000 has more than doubled in the space of a week.

A total of 19 areas in the region recorded rates that high in the seven days to June 22, according to the latest government data available.

In comparison, a week earlier, nine areas were recording rates above 200 while, two weeks earlier, there was only one – Pill & Easton (222.6).

Six Bristol areas are now recording rates above 400, placing them in the second most severe category in the government map.

Cotham is continuing to record the city’s highest infection rate (791.3) after 71 cases were confirmed in the seven days to June 22.

It is followed by Bristol City Centre (136 cases, rate 717.7) and Clifton East (58 cases, rate 643.5). Cotham’s infection rate is more than six times the UK average (123.7) and is amongst the country’s worst.

Yesterday Bristol recorded 223 further coronaviru­s cases in the latest update. South Gloucester­shire had 91 new cases, North Somerset had 59 and Bath and North East Somerset had 26 cases.

There were no further deaths.
