Plan for 21 new homes on site near retail park

PLANS have been submitted for 21 homes near Bradley Stoke’s Willow Brook shopping centre.

Housing association LiveWest has put forward a scheme for nine family houses, a wheelchairaccessible bungalow and a block of 11 supported living flats on a vacant plot next to Hornbeam Close.

The development would be on a South Gloucestershire Councilowned vacant plot opposite the Tesco filling station at Willow Brook.

Planning permission was given for a health centre on the site in 1990 – and renewed four times since then – but by 2012 the expansion of existing GP surgeries meant this plan was scrapped.

The 0.35-hectare site is a triangular corner plot, bounded by homes on two sides and a private access road into the Willow Brook on the third.

The terraced houses would comprise seven two-storey two-bed homes and two three-storey three-bed homes, all with private gardens.

All the homes would have one on-plot parking space and the three-bed houses would also have a garage.

And all homes would be “affordable” housing, according to the planning documents. The supported living flats would be for tenants with learning difficulties.

The flats would each have one bedroom and the block would include some communal space. The bungalow would share a communal garden with the flats.

The flats and bungalow would have eight parking spaces and the site would also have five visitor parking spaces.

So far 10 people have made objections. The objections include concerns there would not be enough parking provision. Bradley Stoke Town Council said it “objects to this planning application on grounds of overdevelopment of the site and insufficient parking provision”.

The planning documents say: “Potential additional spaces have been designed into site to accommodate future requirement.”
