We know from health data who has and who has not had the jab

-

AS the vaccination drive rolls on, it is worth reflecting on just what kind of city we want coming out of the pandemic – assuming we do come out of this, of course, which thankfully looks likely if we all do our bit.

The fears that the virus will evolve to overcome the vaccines seems misplaced.

The experts are calm and clear that this has not yet happened, and the scientists are working on new tweaks to the vaccines behind the scenes so we can trust in that.

We can do more on strategic communications. It is odd that so far we have had nothing in our letterboxes, no leaflets from the NHS or Public Health communicating in “hard to reach areas”.

We know who has and who hasn’t yet had the vaccine, and it really needs very strong community vaccine coverage to get to “herd immunity” to beat this thing.

Since we need pretty much everyone who could have it to have it, it makes sense to figure out who hasn’t had it and then target those communities. And we know from the health data who has and who hasn’t had the jab, and the areas where these people are most likely to live.

So you can then leaflet these areas and make sure that the key messages get out to these people in those communities.

Maybe some will need special help to get out and get to a vaccination centre, like older folks. This should be provided.

More local pop-up centres will help – look at the proven demand from the one the previous weekend in Eastville Park! We need more like this.

Targetted community communications and targetted pop-up vaccination centres are needed and will help us beat this virus. Andrew Wood Bristol
