Basketball Flyers new-boy Trejon thrilled to sign first professional deal

-

BRISTOL Flyers have completed the signing of American wing Trejon Jacob from Florida International University, on a one-year contract.

The 6ft 5in guard has signed his first professional contract with the Flyers and becomes the sixth player to commit to Coach (Andreas) Kapoulas’ new-look roster ahead of the 2021-22 BBL season.

Jacob, 23, posted a career average of 12.2 points and 4.5 rebounds during his three-year spell at FIU, shooting 38 per cent from behind the three-point line.

He scored 451 points during his first year with the Panthers, which is the second most scored by a sophomore in school history.

Speaking on signing his first professional contract, Jacob said: “It feels crazy. I’ve been thinking about this moment since I was two or three years old and it’s a surreal feeling.

“My time at FIU was a crazy whirlwind three years. I couldn’t have asked for a better coaching staff to help prepare me for the next level.

“Coach Kapoulas told me the Flyers fans are the craziest in the league, so I’m really excited to play in front of them and can’t wait to meet everybody.”

Flyers head coach Kapoulas said: “We are very pleased to have Trejon on board and look forward to working with him.

“He has consistently been one of the best shooters in college basketball and has shown on numerous occasions that he can score in bunches.

“It’s really great to see the energy that he plays with - he’s very active off the ball, has great timing and his athletic ability makes him very tough for opposing guards.

“His overall efficiency and elite defensive ability gives our team even more versatility and depth in our backcourt.”
