Sun, sand and a sensational cruise holiday

-

IMAGINE Cruising is offering an escape to some winter sun in the Canaries this December, so we take a look at exactly what’s on offer for the 12-night Canaries Sailcation, alongside exclusive performances from Russell Watson, Lulu and Jimmy Tarbuck OBE.

Day 1: Embark Queen Mary 2

Arrive in Southampton and step onboard the regal Queen Mary 2, with ample opportunity to explore the decks from the elegant cabins to the bars, shops and dining venues.

Days 2-3: At Sea

There’ll be plenty of time to enjoy the ship’s lavish perks whether you’re tucking into the delectable Afternoon Tea served by white-gloved waiters, opting for a luxurious treatment at the spa, or enjoying some of the live evening entertainment.

Day 4: Lisbon

The Portuguese capital will be your first port of call. Wander through the cobbled streets and take in the colourful buildings with their terracotta roofs. Make the most of the city’s vibrant atmosphere and make sure to stop off at one of the traditional restaurants where plates are piled high with olives, baskets of bread and bowls of arroz de feijão, rice and beans.

Day 5: Cadiz

This ancient port city is steeped in history, home of the Spanish naval fleet and famously raided by Sir Francis Drake in 1587. There’s incredible gothic architecture, winding medieval lanes and lively tapas bars, plus amazing flamenco performances to be found throughout the city.

Day 6: At Sea

Foodies won’t be disappointed with cuisines ranging from Mexican delicacies at Aztec, to prime cuts of beef at the Steakhouse. Looking for something a little more casual? There’s a selfservice option in Kings Court that will do just the trick.

Day 7: Lanzarote

Lanzarote’s volcanic landscapes have long drawn intrepid explorers, but one highlight has to be Cueva de los Verdes, a famous tunnel made from a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago. Local architect César Manrique moulded his home into five hardened underground lava bubbles and the best part is that nowadays it’s open to the public.

Day 8: Tenerife

Beautiful beaches? Check. Volcanic landscapes? Check. Bustling bars and restaurants? Check. It’s no wonder Tenerife has been a firm favourite with holidaymakers for years. And now you can get a taste of the spectacular scenery and keep an eye out for the abundant marine life as you explore this breathtaking island.

Day 9: Funchal, Madeira

Backed by hills, the capital city of Portugal’s Madeira archipelago is famed for its harbour, gardens and Madeira wine cellars. Wander round the spectacular Botanical Garden, with its rich and

diverse sub-tropical flora. The western edge of the garden affords captivating views across Funchal Bay.

Days 10-12: At Sea

There’s plenty to keep you entertained onboard Queen Mary 2, from the lavish spa to activities including painting classes and stargazing sessions. Then, of course, there are Cunard’s famed gala balls where you can don your glitziest outfits and dance the night away in a ballroom.

Day 13: Disembark Queen Mary 2 in Southampton

Sadly your holiday comes to an end today, but you can be consoled by the fact you’ll have made some incredible memories.
