AFC MANGOTSFIELD District’s mixed early-season fortunes continued – in truly positive fashion this time!

The Blackhorse Road hosts entered their Senior Division fixture with Fry Club A still smarting from a 6-2 away drubbing by AEK Boco A seven days earlier.

Mangotsfield responded by rattling up an 11-1 victory through Owen Ridler and Brad Clark braces, and single contributions by Liam Porter, Ash Williams, Josh Hocking, Simon Bracey, Mark Gifford, Matt Brown and Josh Grant, to see their side to fourth place approaching a home clash with mid-table Stapleton this Saturday.

As for Boco A, they are looking unstoppable at the summit with five wins now from five and 26 goals notched. Henbury Reserves became their latest victims, as four Karim Rendall goals, a Mikey Golding pair plus Nathan Bell and Paul Coles efforts saw the Greenbank Road fliers to another decisive win, 8-1. Lewis Hammond’s goal at least gave Henbury something to celebrate.

Lawrence Rovers and visitors Bedminster Down served up a goal feast, too, amid an enthrallingly tight spectacle. Pedro Shields, Kevin Blunt, Daniel Harris and an own goal were among the scorers as Rovers prevailed 5-4, while Shay Wood’s double, and Cameron Phipps and Dean Yandell strikes, kept the visitors in the contest.

Longwell Green Sports A had Ben O’Brien on target in a 1-1 home draw with Highridge United A as both sides ended the afternoon in the top three.

Tunde Odunuga and Ryan Ricketts were the respective marksmen for Patchway Town Reserves and Stapleton in a 1-1 Scott Park stalemate.

Ted Keegan twice struck for bottom-placed Seymour United Reserves, who were nonetheless forced to wait for that elusive first point of their Senior campaign as Chipping Sodbury Town A swept to a 5-1 victory at Coronation Park.

There was no shortage of goals in Division One either, not least at Jubilee Centre where Callum Somerville, Mitch Bombroff and Ashley Rogers-Milburn braces, along with Bill Lupton and Dan Rodwell singles, catapulted Bradley Stoke Town Reserves to an 8-3 romp over lowly Hanham Athletic Reserves.

Marcin Taras fired all four of undefeated leaders Bristol Barcelona’s goals as they won 4-2 against Brimsham Green, who replied through Jon Davies and Ben Rankin.

Iron Acton Reserves were grateful to Tom Savory and Jordan Miles, who each found the net to ensure their team a precious first win of their programme thanks to a 2-1 home defeat of Lawrence Weston, whose Adam Harper kept them in the game.

Old Sodbury had Josh Field (2), Darren Bell and Jonathan Morgan registering in a 4-0 home victory over winless Sea Mills Park.

Lion secured their first win of the second-tier campaign at the fifth time of asking, as goals from Callum Slade and Alex Moores edged a 2-1 away success over mid-table Olveston United Reserves.

Harry Madder, Will Reininho and Callum Beale were the scorers for Bendix, who overcame Bradley Stoke Town A – Dan Budd scored for them – 3-1 on their travels to pitch up third in Division Two.

Simeon McCarthy struck both goals as pacesetting DRG SV Frenchay Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw by Winterbourne United Reserves.

It could have been better for DRG, however, as they’d found themselves two goals up before Brendan Grimstead and Martin Bobok hauled Bourne back for a deserved point.

Pucklechurch Sports Reserves pulled level alongside DRG with ten points as Ben Shaw’s treble, and Jake Edwards’ effort, saw off visiting Stoke Lane 4-1 at the Rec.

In Division Three, Alex Rennolds’ two goals still couldn’t prevent AFC Grace falling 4-2 at home at the hands of AFC Mangotsfield District Reserves.

Improving De Veys Reserves bounced back from two successive defeats as Callum Hancock’s double secured a 2-0 away victory over local rivals Crosscourt United, who were left striving still for a first win of the campaign. They had their chances too, denied on one occasion by a penalty save from De Veys keeper Liam Stockham.

No such problems for Thornbury Town A returning to winning ways, as they had Chris Thomas and James Bakewell on target in a tight 2-1 home success against Oldland Abbotonians Colts, whose Ellis Clarke scored.

Jordan White scored for Bristol Barcelona Reserves in a 2-1 defeat to Division Four pacesetters Made For Ever.

Michael Pepper (2) and Luke Mills grabbed the goals to see high-flying Hallen A to a 3-2 Moorhouse Lane success over spirited Longwell Green Sports C.

Patchway Town A beat Bitton Reserves 4-1 via Gabor Kurmai, Dan Rees, Leo Liu and Cameron Adams goals. Harry Joyner offered the visitors a little cheer with their strike on a delayed first outing of their season.
