Hockey Clifton Robinsons sunk by Premier Division leaders at Coombe Dingle

CLIFTON Robinsons suffered a 3-1 defeat to leaders Hampstead & Westminste­r in a Vitality Women’s Premier Division match at Coombe Dingle.

The game started with end-toend action with both teams having chances to score, but the match was locked at 0-0 at half-time.

The first goal came from a penalty flick for Hampstead which was scored by Lauren Turner.

The visitors continued to press hard and increased their lead following two penalty corners, with the goals scored by Esme Burge and Sarah Robertson.

The final quarter was dominated by the home side who gained a consolatio­n goal in the final minute through Holly Munro following a penalty corner.

New skipper Kathryn Lane takes her side to face Holcombe on Saturday.

In National Conference West, Clifton Robinsons 2nds drew 1-1 against Basingstok­e, Firebrands drew 2-2 with Oxford Hawks and the game between Exe and University of Bristol fell victim to the wet weather.

On Saturday, Clifton Robinsons 2nds host Penarth, University of Bristol are at home to Cheltenham and Firebrands travel to Basingstok­e, all in National Conference West.

In Men’s National Conference West , Clifton Robinsons won 4-2 at Cardiff University and Univer

sity of Bristol beat Fareham 5-2. Clifton Robinsons trailed 2-0 at Cardiff but recovered and equalised through goals from Rory Thorburn and Ollie King.

Micah Smithard gave the Clifton the lead and player of the match Tom Appleby scored a fourth goal following a penalty corner near the end.

On Sunday, Clifton Robinsons

host Chichester at Clifton College 2pm, while the students travel to Cheltenham. In local matches, Wick lost 3-2 against Yate 2nds with goals from Belle Clark and Jo Stevenson, while Keynsham 3rds were 3-1 winners against Wick 3rds, whose goal came from Lou Hemmings. Thornbury and Bristol/UWE shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw in the same division.
