Popular pub is put on the market

-

A MUCH loved Bristol pub well known for its spectacular Christmas decorations has been put up for sale.

The Quinton House in Park Place, off Queen’s Road, has been owned for the past 11 years by Patrick Gomm, who previously ran The Artichoke in Broadmead.

Patrick, who has worked in the hospitality industry for more than 50 years, has decided to retire as he approaches his 70th birthday.

The veteran landlord is in the fortunate position of owning the freehold to the building, which has been a pub since 1896.

As well as the ground floor pub space, there is a two-bedroom flat above, with views across the green opposite.

Patrick says: “I’m lucky to have an asset like this as it’s a unique property in a beautiful position. I’d like to think it will be sold either as a going concern or as a unique individual property which could be developed subject to planning etc.”

The property is being marketed by estate agents Morgan Beddoe with a sale price of £600,000 when it enters its November auction.

Morgan Beddoe’s website describes the property as a freehold public house with separate two bedroom flat above, suitable for a variety of different uses subject to planning.

It says: “The property offers an opportunity to either continue as a pub or be redeveloped into a variety of different uses including restaurant, offices, flats, HMO or

mews house subject to the necessary planning consents being obtained.”

Patrick took over the pub in 2010 after selling The Artichoke pub in Lewins Mead. The Broadmead site was bought by developers and turned into a Premier Inn.

Patrick gained a reputation at The Artichoke for his elaborate Christmas decorations and it’s something he has continued at The Quinton House.

Every December, the pub is stuffed with festive decorations inside and out, with a huge Christmas tree on the roof terrace.

He says the sale of the property has an extended completion period so he plans to make his last Christmas at the Quinton House the biggest and best yet.
