Covid latest: One death and 364 new cases

ANOTHER person has died of Covid in the Bristol region.

The death took place in North Somerset, where there have now been 337 coronaviru­s-related deaths.

It brings the total number of Covid deaths to 1,494 in the region.

At the same time, 364 new coronaviru­s cases were found in the region.

Bath and North East Somerset recorded the highest number of new cases, after 186 people tested positive for the virus. It was followed by Bristol with 102 cases.

North Somerset found 54 new cases while 22 were recorded in South Gloucester­shire.

The Government said a further 136 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of yesterday, bringing the UK total to 138,080.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 163,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.

As of 9am yesterday, there had been a further 42,776 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said, which is the highest number of daily reported cases since July 21.

Government data up to October 12 shows that of the 94,492,698 Covid jabs given in the UK, 49,252,939 were first doses, a rise of 36,847 on the previous day.

Some 45,239,759 were second doses, an increase of 26,946.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol since the pandemic began, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

City of Bristol - 61,233 (+102) North Somerset: 20,605 (+54) South Gloucester­shire - 31,239 (+22)

Bath and North East Somerset: 19,586 (+186)

Total daily increase: +364
