Shirehampton still out in front despite surprise defeat

-

SHIREHAMPTON suffered a first defeat in the Gloucestershire County League this season with a 3-1 setback at Hardwicke, who won for the first time.

Just before half-time, the home side took the lead through Adam Bloomfield.

Table-topping Shirehampton equalised from the penalty spot when Glen Gittens was adjudged to have handled in the penalty box and Scott Bamford slotted home.

On 75th minutes, Hardwicke took the lead with a header from Pat Vernall. A lob from Pat Vernall sealed the win.

Frampton United maintained their title push with a 1-0 win at home to Henbury. Frampton’s Stuart Maule grabbed all three points for the home side in the 82nd minute when he raced clear and drove the ball low into the corner of the Henbury net.

Broadwell Amateurs moved into second place after their 3-1 success over Little Stoke.

On 51 minutes, Broadwell took the lead when Ethan Wilkins latched on to a poor back pass to score.

The lead only lasted four minutes when Jaden Holver turned on the edge of the box and hit a low shot past the home goalkeeper.

Broadwell retook the lead on 69 minutes when Kristian Burnard headed home. The home side sealed the points on 79 minutes when Liam Thomas set up Harry Williams to strike a great shot into the top corner of the net.

After last week’s heavy defeat at Sharpness, Bromley Heath United hit back to gain a valuable point at home to Gala Wilton.

The home side went into the break with a 1-0 lead after a tap-in at the far post by Nathan Rose on 40th minutes.

Gala levelled two minutes into the second half with a goal from Dan Gayner.

Rockleaze Rangers must be wondering what they have to do to start winning again, after going 2-0 up at half-time they conceded three in the second half to lose 3-2 at home to Ruardean Hill Rangers.

The home side settled down and took the lead on 14 minutes through new signing Marco Lautier. Sam Bailey made it 2-0 on 41 minutes when he slotted home from an acute angle.

On 61 minutes, Miles Hatfield hit the crossbar for Rockleaze, then just two minutes later a defensive mistake allowed Ruardean Hill back into the game with Steve Clark stabbing home the first of his three goals of the afternoon. He struck again on 64 and 78 minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Patchway Town crashed to a 4-0 defeat at Sharpness, who led 2-0 at half-time.
