Southern Humphries strikes twice as Weston overcome Chesham

-

WESTON-SUPER-MARE overcame Chesham United 3-1 in Premier South, as a Lloyd Humphries brace either side of a Prince Henry strike saw them get all three points.

The visitors broke the deadlock through a 10th-minute penalty from Bradley Clayton.

Weston weren’t to be behind for long, though, as just eight minutes later, a bit of Humphries magic drew them level. Dayle Grubb’s corner kick found the Welshman outside the area and, after he had taken a touch to set himself, he arrowed a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

The second came when a pass in behind by Humphries found Scott Laird charging into the box. His first-time volley across the face of goal was missed by Nick McCootie on the stretch, but Henry arrived right on cue to slot into an open net from a few yards out for 2-1. A third would arrive just two minutes later when Jason Pope’s pass down the left freed Laird. The defender cut inside on to his right foot and played the ball to Humphries, who took a touch to get past his man 18 yards out before driving a shot into the bottom corner to double the advantage.

Yate Town made it back-to-back wins in Premier South with a 3-1 home win against Walton Casuals, to put them in great heart for Tuesday’s rearranged FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay against Dover Athletic.

Olly Mehew and Joe Tumelty went close to scoring for Yate before the breakthrough came via a header from Dave Sims-Burgess on 22 minutes.

Four minutes later, Mehew raced through from halfway, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home to make it 2-0. Zidane Akers pulled a goal back for Walton on 42 minutes, but Yate had the better of the second half and wrapped up the win on 85 minutes when James Harding put the ball into an unguarded net after being set up by Mehew.

In Division One South, Paulton Rovers inflicted a first home defeat of the seasonon Sholing with a 2-0 success.

Thierry Swaby, on his debut on loan from Bristol City, combined well with Will Harvey and Ed Butcher, who both had efforts saved by home goalkeeper Ryan Gosney.

Rovers went ahead on 22 minutes as Harvey fastened on to a loose pass and firmly struck past Gosney.

Lee Ibrahim struck the foot of the post as Paulton looked to add to the score. They did so immediately on the restart as Ed Butcher drove forward and his shot went in off the post.

Dan Mason saw his shot held by Rovers stopper Aaron Sainsbury and Rovers subs Dave O’Hare and 16-year-old Harley Prior both tested Gosney

Bristol Manor Farm slipped up 2-0 against Bideford Town at The Creek.

Ruben Wilson gave Bideford the lead with a close-range header on 39 minutes. Owen Howe came close to equalising for Manor Farm, but the visitors struck again on 72 minutes through Mattie Buchan.

Mangotsfield United also lost 2-0, at home to Melksham Town.

A header from Ryan Morgan put the Wiltshire side in front on 36 minutes. Shortly after the break, Albert Hopkins volleyed home from 16 yards to score a second for Melksham.
