BRISTOL CITY PLAYER RATINGS

-

DAN BENTLEY - 7

Made a brilliant stop to deny Hugill after Tanner’s poor back-pass but beaten twice in the first half by Bartley’s header and Hugill’s finish from Furlong’s cross. Good saves after the break to deny Grant and Bartley but it was one of those afternoons when the goalkeeper was overworked.

GEORGE TANNER - 5

The right-back was subbed off by his manager after 34 minutes as too many attacks were coming down his flank but likely influenced by a dreadful back-pass that allowed Hugill to run in on goal.

TOMAS KALAS - 6

Several good clearances but guilty of just hacking the ball down the pitch at times too. Great clearance off the line late on to stop Hugill or Robinson converting.

ROB ATKINSON - 5

Should have stepped forward to stop Phillips feeding Furlong for the first goal before a poor clearance set up Snodgrass to chip against the post, but got better as the game went on and won the most aerial duels for Bristol City by the end.

NATHAN BAKER - N/A

Carried off on a stretcher with a head knock after 23 minutes, needing oxygen as was carried around the pitch.

MATTY JAMES - 6

Played around at times as Molumby and Phillips found spaces but kept battling away and retained the ball well under pressure, his pass success rate only bettered by Dasilva off the starting players. One shot from 30 yards in the second half well off target.

HAN-NOAH MASSENGO - 6

Snapped into the tackles but often outpowered by the physically fierce midfield opponents, and when he stepped on the ball after half-an-hour it summed things up for City.

JAY DASILVA - 5

Embroiled in a good battle down the left with Furlong and maybe could have done more to either stop the ball out to the wing-back for the first goal or the low cross. Few chances to get forward. Subbed off for O’Dowda late on.

ANDI WEIMANN - 6

The Austrian got forward on the counter but lacked any kind of partnership or combination play with Wells, meaning attacks rarely saw play linked up.

NAHKI WELLS - 6

Thought he had equalised just before 10 minutes before the offside flag went up. Only managed one shot, but carried the ball across the West Brom half well if unable to connect with other red shirts on the counter.

CHRIS MARTIN - 5

Was not in the game for a long time but finished the match fairly strongly as his cross to the back post set up O’Dowda to head wide. Unable to cause much chaos in the air as he has done this season due to the presence of Bartley. SUBSTITUTES

CAMERON PRING (for Baker, 23 mins) 7

An excellent cameo as the Cheltenhamborn flyer won plenty of tackles and helped to keep the Baggies at bay for most of the second half.

DANNY SIMPSON (for Tanner, 34 mins) -4

A dreadful back-pass gifted Grant a third goal, while a yellow card was collected for a late tackle on Diangana.

CALLUM O’DOWDA (for Dasilva, 64 mins) - 5

Missed a late header that could really have got the Robins on the road to coming back into the game.

TYREEQ BAKINSON (for Massengo, 87 mins) - n/a

Got the final minutes as a fourth allowed sub due to a ‘concussion sub’ being used when Baker went off the pitch.

WEST BROM: Sam Johnstone, Semi Ajayi, Kyle Bartley, Matthew Clarke (Kean Bryan, 82 mins), Darnell Furlong, Robert Snodgrass, Jayson Molumby, Conor Townsend (Adam Reach, 85 mins), Matt Phillips (Callum Robinson, 61 mins), Jordan Hugill, Karlan Grant (Grady Diangana, 64 mins).

NOT USED: Cedric Kipre, David Button, Taylor Gardner-Hickman.
