Rockleaze rise to the top

-

AFTER six weeks of the season, Rockleaze Rangers have climbed from propping up the Premier Division after the first week to become leaders following a run of three games without defeat. On Sunday, they had a 5-1 win over Olveston.

In Division One, Bath City have topped the table from the outset of the season and continue to do so six games in. Hengrove are in hot pursuit followed by Keynsham and Mangotsfield, who all have games in hand over the leaders.

Division Two is headed by two Whitchurch teams, with Whitchurch Sports just heading off their rivals Sports U18 by one point. In Division Three, Mendip Broadwalk and Port of Bristol are unbeaten and head the division with 15 points.

In Division One last Sunday, Thornbury Town conceded a late goal in a 2-1 home defeat to Bath City, and are still searching for their first league win of the season after four games.

George Baker’s second goal in as many matches gave Thornbury the lead midway through the first half. Bath hit back to level ten minutes before half-time when a corner delivery wasn’t cleared, and despite Joni Gadish’s attempt to hack clear off the line, the ball was deemed to have passed far enough over to level the scores.

Bath’s pressure and possession would eventually contribute to their winning goal in the second half, though it would come late, as they finished from a narrow angle.

Hengrove Athletic enjoyed a 10-1 win against Clifton Unity Hawks at Stoke Lodge.

The opening goal came on 34 minutes when Harvey Impey hit a low shot into the corner of the net. Then, on the brink of halftime, Carter Bailey hit a fantastic volley to double Hengrove’s lead.

Hengrove cut loose after the break with further goals coming from Riley Griffiths (2), Jude McCarthy (2), Bailey, Harry Templeman, Harry Lucas and Impey, while Clifton replied with two goals.
