Toolstatio­n/Hellenic Jack’s penalty keeps Bitton in hot pursuit of leaders

BITTON stayed within four points of Toolstatio­n League Premier Division leaders Tavistock with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Street.

While Tavistock were securing a 4-2 win at Shepton Mallet, secondplac­ed Bitton took the three points at The Tannery thanks to a 59thminute penalty from Jack Ball.

Keynsham Town moved up to sixth after an impressive 2-1 win against third-placed Exmouth Town at the AJN Stadium.

A superb 14th-minute strike from Cieran Bridger put Buckland in front, but Dan Cottle equalised before the break and struck again with a shot into the top corner of the net during the second half.

Clevedon Town fell behind early on at Wellington, when Sam Towler tucked away a penalty, but took a share of the spoils thanks to a curling effort from Syd Camper in the 58th minute.

Josh Williams put Cadbury Heath ahead in the 12th minute at Mousehole, but the Cornish club hit back to lead 2-1 at the break and went on to win 4-1. Heath also had player-manager Matt Huxley sent off late on for two bookings.

Ashton & Backwell United conceded two goals in a minute shortly before half-time at Exmouth Town, and finished up losing 4-0. Mark Lever (2), Aaron Denny and Jordan Harris struck for the Devon side.

Lydeard went down to 10 after nine minutes and had a further two players sent off in the closing stages. By then, they had also had two of their management team dismissed. Luco Ponsillo provided a first-half equaliser for Hengrove, and he scored again to make it 2-2 on 82 minutes.

Almondsbur­y pulled off a fine 2-1 win at Radstock Town, despite going one down in the second half. Andrew Williams equalised with a long-range strike on 71 minutes, and Isaac Flynn grabbed an 88thminute winner, just after the home side had been reduced to 10 men.

Longwell Green Sports won 1-0 at Bishop Sutton after Liam Oswin headed in an 89th-minute corner from Zac Cheetham.

Odd Down drew 3-3 at Sherborne Town, having been 3-0 up through to two Luke Bryan goals and one from Ash Robinson. Sherborne made it 3-2 on 88 minutes and a penalty two minutes later secured an unlikely point.

AEK Boco have slipped to seventh following a 3-1 home defeat to second-placed Cheddar.

Bristol Telephones won 1-0 at home to Portishead Town, while Tytheringt­on Rocks battled out a goalless draw at Wells City.

Oldland Abbotonian­s lost 4-0 at home to Wincanton Town, who scored three times in the last 15 minutes, while Lebeq United let a 1-0 lead slip to lose 2-1 at Warminster Town.

In the Hellenic League Premier Division, third-placed Cribbs suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at Lydney Town.

The hosts led 3-0 in the second half before Steve Murray and Ross McErlain, with a penalty, pulled late goals back for Cribbs.

Two Shacquille Smith goals gave Roman Glass St George a 2-0 home win against Longlevens, while Chipping Sodbury had a 1-0 success at Shrivenham.

Thornbury Town gained a fourth win of the season with a 3-1 triumph at Tuffley Rovers, who had a player sent off in the first half. Tom Bradley’s header from a Toby Bennett corner gave Thornbury the lead, then Jacob Farthing struck before and after half-time to secure victory.

Hallen remain at the foot of the table after a 10 defeat at Royal Wootton Bassett Town.
