Teen and youth face alleged murder trial

A TEENAGER and a youth are facing trials after the alleged murder of an 18-year-old man in Lawrence Hill.

Dontae Davis, 18, died from a stab wound to the chest, a post-mortem examinatio­n revealed.

He was found injured in Hayes Close, Lawrence Hill, at around 6.20pm on October 14.

Avon and Somerset Police charged 19-year-old Kairon Sawyers of Whitchurch, with murder.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with the attempted murder of Sawyers on the same date.

The case was mentioned at Bristol Crown Court on Friday.

A trial has been scheduled to start on for April 4 next year. Both defendants have been remanded in custody.

Members of Dontae’s family have paid a heartfelt tribute to the young man from Bishopswor­th who was a “ray of light” and “always loved to do right for others”.

His family said: “Dontae was strong, loving, caring, charming and a thoughtful son, brother, nephew and a friend to all.

“A young man of justice who always loved to do right for others and loved football, music and online gaming with his siblings and friends.

“Dontae was a ray of light with a distinctiv­e cheeky smile, that would shine through any room he entered.”

Armed police called over ‘weapon’ fear

ARMED police were deployed to an incident in Bristol yesterday.

Armed officers were called to Jacob’s Wells Road at around 11.30am due to fears that there might be a weapon at the scene, said a police spokespers­on.

No arrests were made at the location, and there was believed to be no threat to the public.

A police statement said: “Police attended an address ... following a report regarding a concern for a person’s welfare.

“Armed officers were deployed due to the potential presence of a weapon.

“On arrival, no one was present at the address. Enquiries are ongoing.

“There is not believed to be any threat to the wider public.”
