Dates with death
THIS chilling true crime series focuses on the deaths of three young people and how social media played a role in putting them in danger.
Tomorrow’s film follows the murder of Alex Rodda, an openly gay 15-year-old embarking on his first relationship.
A fling that started with Facebook flirting in
2019, ended six weeks later after Alex was groomed for a sexual relationship and then bludgeoned to death with a wrench.
Wednesday’s film follows the murder of Molly McLaren, who was killed in June 2017 by her ex boyfriend. The relationship started on
Tinder, and Molly’s ex used social media to track her down after their split.
Tonight’s upsetting film tells the tragic story of 22-year-old Grace Millane, a British backpacker who went missing while on a Tinder date in Auckland in 2018.
A week after Grace’s disappearance Jesse Kempson was arrested and later convicted of Grace’s murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Raising questions around women’s safety, the documentary traces the night of Grace’s disappearance, the subsequent search, Kempson’s arrest, the court case and ultimately the role that a dating app played in bringing these two individuals together.
There are exclusive interviews with investigators close to the case as well as chilling CCTV footage and the police interviews with Kempson.
We also see the texts and tweets between Grace and her killer in her final days.
“How’s the date going?” texted a friend.
“I click with him so well. I’ll let you know what happens tomorrow,” she replied.
A disturbing, debate-sparking insight into the dark side of social media.
