Hanham’s spirited efforts bring no reward at Quedgeley

-

QUEDGELEY Wanderers dashed Hanham Athletic’s chances of following up their first point of the season last week with a 3-0 home success.

Sean Lawson set up Jack Hornsby to put Wanderers ahead on 19 minutes with a simple tap-in. Home goalkeeper Ben Holbrough then pulled off a brilliant one-handed save to deny Hanham levelling the score in the 21st minute.

Wanderers increased their lead two minutes before the break when Jordan Rouse chested the ball home following a corner. Hanham battled well throughout but Wanderers rounded the scoring off in the 89th minute with a Lewis Cook tap-in.

Rockleaze Rangers halted their slide down the table with a 5-1 win at English Bicknor.

An own goal and a thunderbolt strike from Sam Bailey put Rockleaze 2-0 up, before Blaine Smith pulled a goal back for the home side. Just two minutes later, Rangers made it three when Dan Webb smashed the ball home.

Just before the break, James Moore scored a fourth for Rockleaze. Bicknor pushed hard to get back in the game after the break but Rangers held out and Bailey put the gloss on their victory with his second of the game.

Wick moved up to second in the table with a 2-1 home win against fellow high-fliers Frampton United.

George Hale made several fine saves to deny Frampton the lead, but the hosts were reduced to 10 men on 26 minutes when Ross Woodford was sent off for a reckless challenge.

Frampton took the lead on 43 minutes after George Blythe was put clear to slot the ball past Hale. However, two minutes later, Mike Hardiman found Ben Harris, who fired his shot into the top corner.

Wick took the lead on the hourmark when Hardiman headed home a Dan Thomas cross.

In the GFA Challenge Trophy, league leaders Shirehampton won 6-0 at Ruardean Hill Rangers.

Jay Spicer and Scott Bamford put Shire in command with goals in the opening 10 minutes, and Richard Brightwell added a third soon after.

Rangers went down to 10 men on 32 minutes when Steve Coombes was sent off.

They were reduced to nine when Josh Sladen sent off in the 70th minute, and Shire went on to score further goals from Bamford, Joe Cox and James Kenway.

Gala Wilton lost 4-0 at home to Hellenic League Premier Division side Cribbs. Sahr Nanoh and Harris Feltham put Cribbs two up inside 15 minutes, Nanoh added a third on 60 minutes and Steve Murray scored the fourth in the 80th minute.
