BRISTOL City beat Backburn Rovers 3-0 at Ashton Gate thanks to impressive goalscoring displays from Aggie Beever-Jones and Abi Harrison.

City took the lead towards the end of the first half when Helen Seed turned Harrison’s cross past her own goalkeeper, before the Scot fired home a second midway through the second half.

Late in the game, Beever-Jones curled in a shot to cap off her own great performance, leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot as the ball found the top corner.

Victory moved City up to fifth in the Championship. Their unbeaten run has now stretched to four games, ahead of facing Lewes in the Conti Cup on Wednesday night.

City had the first chance inside a minute as Melissa Johnson saw her volleyed effort rattle the crossbar.

Not long after the half-hour mark, City broke the deadlock as Harrison crossed into the area and, courtesy of a huge deflection from Seed, the ball found its way into the back of the net.

The pressure continued to mount at the start of the second half with Ava Kuyken denied by the bar as her effort from the edge of the box looked set to find a way into the goal, only for Johnson’s follow up to go narrowly wide.

Chloe Bull was next to try her luck, twice in quick succession. The first effort was a freekick that was turned round the post, before she followed up by striking the outside of the same post from a narrow angle.

Just after 70 minutes, City doubled their lead as Beever-Jones’ shot could only be parried into the path of Harrison, with the Scot having a tap-in.

Minutes later, Beever-Jones finally got the reward for her hard work, striking across the goalkeeper into the top right corner.

On Women’s football weekend, it was great to see so many fans inside Ashton Gate, with a record number of supporters at a City Women’s fixture with 3,053 in attendance.
