Fry’s overcome Larkhall to boost title challenge

-

WITH five Premier Division teams playing in the Gloucestershire U18 Youth Shield, only one game in the division was played.

Fry Juniors travelled to Larkhall and came away with a 4-0 win, with two goals scored in each half. On target for Fry’s were Jack Roland (2), Max Micalak and Harrison Morgan. Victory moved Fry’s up to second in the table.

In Division One, Stanley Wyatt and George Baker both bagged braces as Thornbury Town Under-18s won on the road at Backwell Athletic. Backwell took the lead inside ten minutes when Joe Wild converted for the first of an afternoon hat-trick.

On 35 minutes, Hari Virdi equalised for Thornbury when he latched on to Theo Stowell’s pass to finish well. Wyatt struck just before half-time and added his second shortly after the break. Baker then struck twice as Thornbury went 5-1 up. Joe Pearmain added a sixth, before Wild pulled two goals back.

A 3-0 win for Bath City over Downend Eagles and a 4-1 win for Hengrove over Stoke Lane Lions means there was no change at the top of the table.

A hatful of goals from Mangotsfield, four before half-time and six following the break gave them a comfortable victory over Saltford Stars, whose only goal came from Ben Watson. On the scoresheet for Mangotsfield were Ben Ackerman (4), Cameron Ford (2), Louis McCarragher, Joe Moss and Sam Taylor.

Keynsham won 2-1 against a Rockleaze Under-17 side that beat them 4-1 a month ago.

The win extended Keynsham’s unbeaten run to four games and kept them fourth in the division.

There were two high-scoring away victories in Division Two. Leaders Whitchurch Sports had a 9-1 win

over Portishead Colts, while Westbury Park overcame Coalpit Heath 8-0.

Whitchurch, who led 4-1 at halftime, had goals from Luis Teagle (5), Taylor Southcott (2) and Omar Jeng (2). Portishead’s goal came from Jack Collings.

In the Westbury game, the only goal in the first half was from Alex Coward. The floodgates opened after the break as further goals came from Harry Wales (3), Noah Sarker Corfield (2), Sam Dayan and Daniel Wills.

The final game to be played in this division resulted in a 3-0 win for St Nicholas over St Vallier. Joel Stone, Jacob Hudson and Ben WilliamsOgborne scored the goals.

In Division Three, third-placed Clifton Eagles drew 1-1 against Portishead Sparks at the Clifton College Sports Ground. Sparks went ahead after 35 minutes with a goal from James Clubb , but Hal Butler equalised in the second half.

Warmley broke a run of three consequative defeats with this 4 – 2 victory over Park Knowle.

Warmley went 1-0 down after about 25 minutes but they responded within a minute with a long-range shot from Jacob Roberts.

Park Knowle went ahead 15 minutes into the second half, but Warmley hit back to win the game with goals from Harvey Spiers (2) and Vinnie Baker.
