Suburban Avonmouth hit the top after tight tussle against Old Cothamians

TWO points separates the top three teams in the Premier Division, with Avonmouth having moved into pole position courtesy of a 1-0 win at Old Cothamians.

In a derby, second-placed Stoke Gifford United beat Stoke Rangers 4-0. Early-season pacemakers Lawrence Weston Athletic lost for the second week running, going down 3-1 at Filton Athletic.

Veteran Richard Griffiths scored for St Aldhelms who travelled to Blackhorse Lane and lost 6-1 to AFC Mangotsfie­ld.

Senior Division leaders Redbridge lost 2-1 at Somerdale Pavilion to fourth-placed Wessex Wanderers, with Demi Ogunbiyi and Tom Trimble on target for Wanderers. Mike York replied for Redbridge.

Bristol Bilbao bounced back from last week’s defeat to move into second by beating Almondsbur­y Reserves 3-2. Ryan Elsbury, Gary Westlake and Max Purnell were the Bilbao marksmen. Stockwood Wanderers Reserves beat Ridings 4-0.

Manny Franke bagged a brace to help AFC Mangotsfie­ld Reserves to a 5-3 home win over Southmead CS Athletic, while Mitch Stanley, Ify Wilcox and a penalty from Dan Reading completed the scoring. Bromley Heath United Reserves won 4-0 at Bristol Telephone Reserves.

Mike Summerhaye­s added two more goals for AFC Whitchurch, who maintained their 100 per cent record after five games by winning 4-2 against local rivals Hartcliffe FC. Pier Carota and Ollie Randall also scored for the victors.

Second-placed Fishponds OB are level on points with leaders Little Stoke Reserves, who were without a game, after they overcame Filton Athletic Reserves 5-3, thanks to strikes from Ben Morris (2), Josh Haynes, John McKay and Darren Ferry.

At Somerdale, Cosmos beat Old Cothamians Reserves 9-5. There were two hat-tricks for Cosmos from Max Kyte and Ahmed Ibrahin, plus goals from Ryan Wilmott, Vladimir Bugnar and an own goal.

Stoke Gifford United Reserves won 3-2 at North Road against Rockleaze Rangers A.

The two top teams in Division Two were without games and Rockleaze Rangers B took advantage to close within two points of the leaders by beating Bristol Phoenix 6-2 at Hillside Gardens. Joe Hodson (2), James Batt, Joe Delaney, Jonah Ache and Jamie Griffin scored for Rockleaze, with the Phoenix goals from Jack Higgs and Greg Dickinson.

Goals from Jordan Bird, Brae Williams, Arun Singh and Brad Boyd gave Cadbury Heath Reserves a 4-1 win at Avonmouth Reserves.

St Aldhelms Reserves stay rooted to the foot of the table after going down 6-1 at home to AFC Mangotsfie­ld A, whose goals came from Dan Ring (2), Olantunji Ajayi (2), Ash Williams and Ollie Williams.

In Division Three, Wessex Wanderers Reserves shortened the gap to six points on Rockleaze Rangers C by beating Bromley Heath A 4-2, with goals from Ches Blackett (2), Mike Tremlett and Luke Dormer.

Socius United won 6-2 at home against Easton Cowboys A, thanks to strikes from Sam Payne (3), Jack Szur and Sam Sackell-Springer, plus an own goal.
